Our Mission

The Maxine Greene Institute promotes the philosophy of Maxine Greene and the practice of aesthetic education and social imagination.

Our Vision

The Institute provides community activities and a virtual space for dialogue and reflection among educators, teaching artists, scholars, students, and those interested in related philosophies and practices.

Description

The Maxine Greene Institute provides opportunities for dialogue, reflection, and interaction in diverse communities, among participants focused on works of art as possibilities toward human growth.  The Institute has established an archive of Maxine Greene’s writing, documented lectures, and public response in order to disseminate the aesthetic education practices, research, and experience inspired by Dr. Maxine Greene. It seeks to form and strengthen alliances among arts organizations, schools, universities, and other cultural organizations, as well as individual educators, teaching artists and experts from other fields who are engaged in aesthetic education, inquiry, and developing social imagination.
