Beyond Sacred: Voices of Muslim Identity

Join us for a discussion with world renowned director Ping Chong and a viewing of an excerpt  of his work Beyond Sacred: Voices of Muslim Identity. This piece is one part of a series Ping calls "Undesirable Elements", community-specific interview-based theater works examining issues of culture and identity of individuals who are outsiders within their mainstream community. With stark simplicity and narrative, immensely relevant to the moment, Beyond Sacred stages the personal and complex stories of young Muslims in New York in a time of increasing Islamophobia. The vision behind "Undesirable Elements" is a remarkable example of what Maxine called Social Imagination.
