About the Institute
The Institute both in its virtual form here and in its activities, provides opportunity for those interested in aesthetic education and social imagination to explore the work of Dr. Maxine Greene, participate in conversations with others in this community, and learn about events, conferences, and workshops among many other events.
The Maxine Greene Institute promotes the philosophy of Maxine Greene and the practice of aesthetic education and social imagination.
The Institute provides community activities and a virtual space for dialogue and reflection among educators, teaching artists, scholars, students, and those interested in related philosophies and practices.
"The Maxine Greene Institute aspires to create an open space where no particular entity, individual or manifesto dominates. We welcome conversation, debate, and multiple perspectives pertaining to the evolution of aesthetic education and the notion of social imagination. As we well know, aesthetic education as we know it emerges from the thinking of many in psychology, philosophy, and education, even well before Dewey. Ideas cannot be owned by institutions, or entities with borders that exclude as much as they include. The Institute seeks to provide a place for free people, autonomous people - creating a space which we can enrich by our own experiences, naming a space that previously had no name."
