Maxine's Stone - A Place For Imagination

Organized by The Maxineers students of Maxine Greene's from Teachers College, Columbia University

In honor of our teacher and friend, Maxine Greene, we have created a gathering space which brings people together in celebration of Maxine's life and teaching. The engraved stone can be found at the Literary Walk in New York City's Central Park, featuring Maxine's words and wisdom. Enter the park at 5th Ave. and 72 st. and walk towards Sheep Meadow. We will gather at the "Imagination Stone" at 2pm. Please let us know if you plan to attend and would like to contribute a reading tothe celebration.

Maxine was a lover of learning, an advocate for the arts, and a legendary teacher and philosopher of education. She urges us to question and wonder upon the enduring ideas of freedom, possibility, and the imagination. We aspire for the 'Imagination Stone' to serve as a constant reminder for current and future generations of learners, teachers, artists, and activists, to make conscious choices and take active roles in instilling wide-awakeness and social responsibility in our shared and collective world.
